Did you check for loose wires in the FNR switch?

I did check the wires. I disconnected them and cleaned the surfaces. When that did not help, I pulled the f/r switch and took it apart. The contact surface look good. I used some electronic tuner cleaner and polished them. It may be that they are not making good contact. I had another old f/r switch, but it actually made things worse. . I am still thinking it has to be in the f/r switch. I may buy one or try to get a repair kit for one. I also chahged out the controller, but that did not help. Thanks for the reply and would appreciate more info if you think of anything.

if you swapped the frt. and rev. cables on the motor and it went forward, then that would certainly seem to narrow it down to fnr switch. just an idea. that would eliminate the controller and solenoid and motor as causes, i think.
