Powerwise QE wiring
Hi everyone
I hope someone can help me hook up a Powerwise QE model 915-4810 charger that has three wires on the plug to a bank of 48 volt batteries. I don't need any lockout or temp or any sensing if I can get away with it. I bought this charger to charge a 48 volt battery bank that is not in a golf cart Thanks |

Re: Powerwise QE wiring
Sorry your post went unanswered.
That model number sure sounds like a Delta-Q charger. Delta-Q chargers are usually manufacturer specific. Maybe Delta-Q built these for Powerwise/EZGO. Either way, I'm totally guessing based on the 915-4810 number which is the exact model number format Delta-Q uses for their chargers. Sorry I can't be of any more help. Good luck. |

Re: Powerwise QE wiring
You are correct,, it does have a Delta Q name on it also.
The Factory guys said that this charger was made to have a special connector/board AND also "talk" to a main control board,,, so this charger that I bought for 150.00 is totally worthless to me,, but to someone that has this ezgo golf cart, it is a factory unit.. Do you know anyone that wants one? Thanks Jerry |

Re: Powerwise QE wiring
Like I said, manufacturer specific. There is a ton of Delta-Q chargers coming out of GEM Cars, Ford Think's, EZGO's, et.al. I've seen many listed on multiple internet sites but you have to know what charging algorithm(s) and battery type the charger is programmed with, and what model and for whom it was built. This data is serial number specific to Delta-Q and the OEM. And just FYI, many of the Delta-Q chargers originally shipped to OEM's are/were mfr'd in China. (Much to my dismay I might add. )
If it is any help, IIRC, the serial number will indicate the year of mfr and many Delta-Q models manufactured AFTER 2006 can be field programmed to many different charging algorithms for many different battery types. Even some, not all, of the earlier models can be field programmed but are again manufacturer specific on how to do it. To my knowledge, Delta-Q will refer anyone to the OEM for support on units originally sold to the various OEM's. Don't remember exactly what year EZGO gave the nod to Delta-Q for chargers but guessing 2007-2009 +/-. Post it in the For Sale section and you might be able to recoup some $$ provided you can't use it for your application. They are very nice chargers but I'd rather (even if I have to pay more) Delta-Q manufacture them in North America. OK, maybe not Mexico, but US or Canada and I'd be all over them again. Sorry and good luck. |

Re: Powerwise QE wiring
The PowerWise QE 48V charger is much like the 36V charger, and if you ground the 3rd wire like it is in the 36V cart you will get the same battery charge algorithm as the 36V cart.
If you wish to have exactly the same algorithm as the 48V cart, either purchase a receptacle from E-Z-GO, or you can use a 14k resistor from the 3rd wire to ground to simulate it. That should set the battery temperature to 25C, so if you are at some other temperature you will likely not charge well - but at least you have something more than a hunk of scrap metal... Since this charger is not designed for on-board use - it will slowly discharge your batteries if you leave it permanently connected. Yes - be sure to check it works. If you can't test it, be sure to smell for the blown up bits. If you are interested, the most common problem that seems to plague golf cart chargers is water getting into them. This can happen at all points in the life cycle of a charger, including new from the factory. If someone complains of a large number of dead chargers in a shipment, then the shipment likely got wet. Look for rust hiding in the nooks and crannies - if you see any then you may have problems. Obviously what I write is completely without guarantee, but it is correct to the best of my knowledge. Glad to see you have found a great deal on what should be a great charger! |
