Well I was not happy with the meters I used in my cart as I couldn't see them in sunlight....I used two meters that I had aquired a few years ago and didn't want to buy new ones...

I took a risk and invested in two new backlit LCD meters and am very much more satisfied. I can actually see them in the sun! Much bettererer......

While I was going to take the cowl off for that I decided to add brake and signal lights (I already had installed H/L's and Tails). They are required in the community I live in but I didn't find that out until recently......

I bought the switch from a site sponsor but it's really a universal Automotive Signal switch. I wanted the plastic cover for the steering column and the price was near the ebay price so I went for it. Unfortunately the site sponsor only had the Chrome version and not the Black version which is what I wanted. I sanded it and painted it black and it looks pretty good.

One thing to keep in mind with this Turn Signal switch is that it has a ground wire that is needed to make the small light indicators work on the Switch body.
It is the white wire. It is bonded to the metal body of the Turn Signal switch.

If you use this wire and tie it to the negative of your battery you will be essentially tieing your battery negative to the chassis through the body of the switch and the band clamp used to attach it to the steering column. I used a piece of rubber to insulate it from the steering column.
For a brake switch I used this thread and the same switch shown in the thread. I got it a local NAPA for $15.00.....

Back to the Turn Signal switch....Another "funny" thing about this switch is that the Brake Light function overrides the Signal Light function. In other words you can put your signal light on using the lever and it will flash but as soon as you step on the brakes BOTH REAR lights illuminate and the flashing stops.

I didn't like this so I ignored the input for brake lights. Additionally, my tails have only two inputs: one for Marker Lights and one for either Brake OR Signal, but not both.

I decided to add another set of lamps for brake lights in the rear of the cart but I wanted something that didn't look like an add-on/appendage attached to the fender.
I chose some LED strip lighting attached to the rails in the rear. I got them at AUTOZONE for $20/each.
I masked and painted them flat black (photo in next post) before attaching and wiring them up.

These are operated by the brake light switch which recieves power only when the key switch is on so no problem with the parking brake.
In fact, all my accessories are active only with the key on.

Nice work on the lights and volt meters!

My turn signal lights override the brake light on the selected side. I got the 8 wire T/S switch.

I used a insulated clamp too, you can get them at Home Depot/Lowe's in the electrical dept. I just used the rubber part.

Hi HOTCAT....
You mean the brake input overrides the flashing signal, don't you?
I have the 8-wire too but the brake signal forces both the Signal lights to ON (no flash) using the RED input on the switch shown in the photo above.

BTW, I installed the meters I found on ebay. Who knew how cheap they were. I actually bought a few spares....Luckily I had some DC/DC converters on hand to provide isolation for the 200V meter.....

Know what, you guys are absolutely correct...The first time I hooked this up I swear that the blinking stopped when I applied the brakes and I said to self 'that's no good!' and proceeded to look for ways to go around it....that's when I just simply disconnected the red wire (Brake Switch input) and wired the strip lights direct to the brake switch.....

I just now hooked it up temporarily and it's working! Shaking head and confused but glad it is....
Too many Scotch/Water's maybe?
Now I have two sets of brake lights.

Todo, if I turn my right side blinker on and press the brakes, the right side blinks and the left side gets brighter, vise versa.
