6+6=12
Last month I traded for a 78 EZGO. For the most part the batteries where shot. Since this cart is just for my daughter and granddaughter to go from house to house and to the end of the drive to get the mail, we're using 3 12 volt batteries we had on hand for now. I don't really want to invest a lot into batteries until I see how much it is used. This means I have a bunch of 6 volt batteries in the barn. The voltmeter gives me a reading of 6.1 or maybe 6.05 on most of them.
So on to my question. If I hook up two of these batteries just as I would in a cart, battery 1 positive to battery 2 negative, won't I now have 12 volts? Here's the reason I ask. I have a 10 gallon sprayer I put on the back of my 4 wheeler to spray weeds in the pasture and down near the river. The run to the river is about a mile and 10 gallons doesn't go far. I thought I could use my workhorse and put 2 extra 15 gallon barrels of water in the bed along with the sprayer and chemical jug. I was afraid I'd run down the workhorse battery with a lot of stopping to spray and just move a little. My thought is put two of the 6 volt batteries I have in the bed and use those to power the sprayer. |

Re: 6+6=12
Great. Now I will be able to do 3 or 4 loads of spray in one trip, and this time around I'll now be able to listen to the radio at the same time. Couldn't do that with the 4 wheeler.

Re: 6+6=12
One other question. If I have 2 batteries hooked up this way, can I hook up a 12 volt charger to charge them? Or will I have to charge each of them at 6 volts.

12v charger will work as well.
Treat the two as you would one 12v battery. |

Re: 6+6=12
Thanks for the help. It sure will be nice to be able to use my workhorse for spraying this year instead of the 4 wheeler. It was always a pain to get all the way down there, and end up having to make the trip all the way back up to mix more spray.
