Default 2004 EZ-GO PDS stops and then starts

I apologize for asking what has probably been asked a million times on this forum but my search-** is weak and I was not able to find an answer to my problem.

I am new to golf carts, brand new, I just picked up a 2004 TXT PDS. I took it out to the farm today and it ran great for the first couple of miles and then it stalled, it surged a little but just did not have enough power to move itself...this was on fairly level ground. I sit for a minute or so and it took off like nothing was wrong, I headed back toward the truck, about a mile or so and it ran very well, so I decided that I would get side tracked....once again it stalled. It stalled several times after short distances.

Any ideas or suggestions?

If it matters the cart is lifted and running 22" tires.

Assuming stock electrics, it sounds like your controller is going into thermal shutdown. The PDS stock controller will eventually die when you load it up with a lift and larger tires.

Check batteries too. As a pack and each individually to ascertain if you may or may not have a battery issue.

Will thermal shutdown be more likely at low speeds? I took the cart out in the neighborhood this evening running up and down hills as fast as safely possible for 6-8 miles and no hiccups whatsoever.

Yes, with a PDS cart creeping along slowly is more stressful than going faster....

What Performace Mode do you have setup? You can find out by following the procedure in the last attachment....

Since it will run 18 mph I'm assuming that it's the Freedom setup.

Don't assume. The Performance Modes that use Regen Braking will produce more heat than those that do not.....

Follow the procedure and find out what you have. This information will let you, the owner, know your limitations and give you some perspective.....

excuse me....
If you are going 18mph you have a performance chip in the cart. If you drive slow you will build much more heat than if you drive like a bat out of hell. If you have big tires and drive off road your stock controller will not last. Take the chip out all together (golf or all terrain mode). This will be easiest on the motor until you can replace the speed control..... sounds like you may already be doing some motor damage as well. NEVER stall a PDS motor. If it is up against something a hill or a ramp or a log that it can not go up~ get off the peddle immediately or pay the consequences. These motors are best suited for on road driving on 22 or smaller tires in my experience.

Thank you!

I will pull the chip out.

Best thing you can do for now, you will loose top speed but you will gain back some torque.... but remember what I said about stalling the motor

Yeah, the speed isn't as important as reliability and longevity. I'll will try to avoid stalling the motor.
