Need a little more lift...
I have a 2000 PDS with a 5 or 6 inch drop axle lift. I recently swapped out my 23 inch tires for 25 inch tires (I found a deal I couldn't pass up, and I'm planning on going 48v and 400 amp soon.) Anyway, I really need about an inch more lift in the front to have a comfortable amount of clearance. What can I do to raise the front (and back to keep it even) without having to completely re-do my suspension and spend a lot of cash? Could I just put some spacers, like pate steel or something, above the springs in the front? If I did that would the steering have enough room for the extra lift? Air shocks? Coil springs? What about the back, just spacers there too?
Thanks for any and all ideas, this place is great and has helped me build a great car so far....but apparently the carting obsession never ends!! |

Sorry to hijack your thread, but the subject line "Need a little more lift..." made me think of my buxom high-school girlfriend - I saw her a few weeks ago after more than 35 years, and the subject line applies to her as well....

Re: Need a little more lift...
On the steering issue you have some play there. I added an extra leaf to the spring pack, which is basically what you will do with the blocks, and the steering works fine. To gain a little in the rear I'd look into a spring over conversion or longer shackles. For every inch you lengthen your shackles you will gain 1/2" of lift.

Re: Need a little more lift...
What about trying to combine the axle lift with an economy lift. This is something I have been wondering also. Will the tie rods have enough clearance from the front leaf springs to work? I am not sure but I think the economy lift is a 4" block kit that fits between the front axle and leaf springs and blocks in the rear also. Hopefully someone that has tried this will comment on how it works.
