1989 Marathon build thread.....
I have put some of these pictures up on a couple of different threads, but now I am going to start a new one so I can catalog the build.
This is a build that I am doing for my daughters High School Band. I am VP of the Band Booster Club and pretty much the only one that has any interest in taking care of the cart. We are doing all of this through donations from local businesses and whatever I can add on a shoestring budget. It may end up being the "rat rod" of golf carts, but it will be functional and will fit the needs of the band. This is pretty much what it has looked like for the last year with the exception of the tires which are new and the few things that I had removed before I decided to take pictures of what I was doing. All of the back plastics have been removed and the top is laying in the background. Dash and seat uprights and seat have all been removed. Removed the front clip and all the front covers, took all of the rest of the carpet out, removed the batteries and took one of the fenders off to start the body work on it. Re: 1989 Marathon build thread.....
Removed both fenders so I could start cleaning up whats underneath. Got after the frame and battery boxes with the wire brush and dremel attachment so see how bad the damage was. It is salvagable. Pulled the rest of the front end off getting ready for the lift blocks. Going to do a mild 4 inch lift. The welding class at the High School fabbed up some lift blocks for it. Comes out to about 4 1/2 inches of lift total |

Got the front lift blocks loosely in to check for fit. Set the back ones in place to get an overall picture of what the lift was going to accomplish. Definatly looks better. |

Re: 1989 Marathon build thread.....
Got all new nuts and bolts and everything fits correctly. Had to do a little trimming to the lift blocks, but that is to be expected. Rolled it off the trailer and outside to get a good look after hosing it down. It is definately a work in progress. |

Re: 1989 Marathon build thread.....
Back onto the trailer, you can definately see the difference. All the bodywork is done, sanded and primered the entire cart. Fenders are just "placed" on. Cut the new 3/4 inch plywood for the bottom of the seat and sent it out the the upholster along with the seatbacks for a new Royal Blue vinyl covering. It will also have the NC (New Caney) stiched onto the seatbacks. |

Re: 1989 Marathon build thread.....
Did a rough sketch of the flatbed that we want to put on the back. We want to be able to sit the water coolers on there for summer band and drive it around to the kids as they are practicing. It does get a bit hot down here in Texas during the summer and we want to keep them hydrated. The kids from the High School Welding shop built the flatbed as a class project. It is close to the drawing. Once the fender flares get here, I will massage the back portion to look more appealing. |

Re: 1989 Marathon build thread.....
One of the local trucking companies donated some red LED's that they use for 18 wheeler trailer lights and a couple of rear spotlights from the cab. Mounted the LED's as taillights and will use the spotlights as headlights. As soon as the funds are available, will be ordering some Jeep CJ fender flares from an early model CJ and modding them to fit. That should happen this Friday. Once the flares are modded up and fit, I will pull everything back off and then off to paint. School colors are Royal Blue, Black and White. |

Once the cart is painted, one of the local businesses is going to do a wrap that will fit over the flatbed that has all of the bussinesses that donated to the building of the cart displayed in prominent locations on the top and all 3 sides. |
