2003 freedom..... whats different?
Finally scored a keeper. It's an 03 (G203) in exceptional shape, with 2010 bats. 36v, Series. It has factory lights, horn & brakelights, & is good for 18mph on flat ground.
Motor is an AU2500 HI SPD #BD4-400 dated3/15/06. Is the Hi Speed motor also part of the Freedom package? (hence the 18mph?) Did it also get a higher amp controller, or any other differences that might affect my planned upgrades? ( short term goal is 20-22mph, with NO lift.) Any recommendations as per the cheapest way to that Mph on stock tires, are greatly appreciated. |

Re: 2003 freedom..... whats different?
the freedom package is just the lights and horn. The high speed motor is an option thru EZGO. That cart could have had a motor issues and someone put a hi-speed motor on it. That would be the only reason for the newer motor on an older cart.
I have installed a couple of the EZGO hi-speed mtr to find a small increase in speed maybe 1-2 mph. The controller are all the same at 275 amps. The cart are limited to 18-19 mph. If they go faster in stock form than they have to be considered street legal. Hince the 2five cart. adding a 400 amp controller will prob net you the extra 4 mph that you want. Just make sure you replace/upgrade all wires to 4ga. |

Looks like the controller & wires are gonna be my first mod. I had also been looking at the 2 spd motors from EMP, but havent seen any prices yet. Who has the best deal on controllers right now? ...& is my Hi-Spd motor worth listing, if I upgrade to the 2spd? |

Re: 2003 freedom..... whats different?
2003 Series cart, only way to get more speed is different gearing, higher rpm motor, taller tires, or higher voltage. A controller upgrade will only give you more torque AND the option of 48v later on. A Freedom cart MAY have a controller larger than the stock 275 amp unit. Only way to know is to inspect it.

Re: 2003 freedom..... whats different?
Controller is a Curtis pmc 25864g09. A quick google search indicates it might be a 350 amp unit, like this one:
https://www.golfcartparts4less.com/c...OTOO01/437.htm Is it adjustable? Would stepping up to 4ga wires with this motor/ controller combo give me any mph? |
