Default I think I cooked my POT box

I've got a very cheap Marathon that didn't run. I'm working on getting it there and I've been making sure that I've got all the wires where they go but when I finally turned on the switch I let the genie out. I got out my wiring diagram and found that the blue wire from the Curtis to the POT box was hooked up with the orange wire and not the red one. The micro switch shows an open circuit no matter what I do and the rheostat shows a closed circuit without any variation when I press the "foot feed". HELP

scottyb,

Did the blue wire being hooked up with the orange one have anything to do with it cooking? With my VOM set on the 10K scale it reads 0 resistance throughout the pedal range and the micro switch shows an open circuit, no matter what.

the micro and the pot are actuallyy 2 completely seperate circuits. Hooking it up the way you describe would not normally fry a pot. You may have simply gotten a bad Pot.....

I guess I didn't phrase my question very well.

After isolating the circuits I tested the micro switch and then the potentiometer. I know that they are both toast. The smoke came from the micro switch. The pot I figure is weather related. What I want to know is could the blue wire hooked up with the orange wire instead of the red wire have cooked the micro switch? Thanks for all your experience and help. I'm new to this.

Well, I got the pot out of the cart and know for certain that the micro switch is toast. Did some more readings on the pot and it is reading 0-25. Took it out and on the back it says it's a 25ohm pot. Is this right? I'll get another switch and try again.

I try not to respond to the blue wire / red wire questions simply because I can not memorize the color code for every cart & there is nothing guarantying somebody doesn't change a wire color here or there.
The basic fact remains if you put battery plus & minus to the micro then it is smoked as well ..... just test it with your meter set on continuity.

I guess that pot would work if it only put out 0-5k when installed.... it is not original? Does it look like the one I posted above?

Thanks for your help and I understand about the wire colors. There are 3 spade terminals on top of my Curtis controllerand the most rearward one connects to the micro switch at the same post as the wire that goes to the FNR switch. However in the case of my cart it was connected to the wire that comes from the solenoid.

I'll just wire it as shown on the schematic. Can you purchase just the accelerator micro switch?
