Default 85 36v. club car slow at times

hi guys and gals we have a 85 36v. club car with new batteries and cables. the problems(2) we are having is this... #1- reverse is slow and very weak, but, if i double pump the excellerator pedal(snap it), it will bolt good with power and speed... and #2 issue we have is about the same... but now in forward. we have good take off and o.k. mid-range speed, but not real fast top speed. i found when i get up to mid-range, if i double pump the excellerator pedal(snap it)(like the reverse issue), it will pounce into high fast speed... both issues can be corrected bt just pumping(snapping) the excellerator pedal. i have been searching the w.w.w. and can not find this problem to determine if it is in the solenoid coils, speed/limit swithes, or even in the excellerator pedal? and can someone tell me where these limit/speed switches are in my cart? thank you all for this forum and the future help! your now in my favorites... brad-n-pam

Oh no! Buggiegonebad! Welcome to the forum...There is plenty of good help here. Pretty soon you'll be changing your name to buggiegonegood.
1st= the early CC were wired 18 volts reverse. This can be rewired to 36v. Correct me if I'm wrong, '85 CC is a single solenoid and resistor coil cart? If so inspect your coils for breaks. If coils are good .... It sounds like you have some worn and or dirty contacts in the v glide. Thin black plastic box under the driver seat. This is were speed selection is made. Open the v glide and remove the double nut on the outside that holds the switch lever on. Remove the lever and clean up the lever end and all the contacts on the board with some medium sandpaper. Inspect the contacts for excessive damage or bridging. Hopefully you see some evidence of corrosion and or arching on the contacts. If so cleaning and re mating the surfaces should suffice. Reassemble and go.

thanks scottyb, it has 5 solenoids and 5 speed/limit switches. i dont see the V glide in the wiring diagram? it looks like the 85 series is unique in the years produced as far as the wiring diagram and operation. thanks again for the input and more is welome. brad

Was afraid of that.... Are you sure of the year? Can you post your serial number?

hi sds, and yes on the 85 and 5 solenoids scottyb. i just feel the problem is in the gas pedal... and where the heck are these 5 speed/limit switches at in the cart? thanks again all and will check back after work, brad

I have not messed with one of these. But the theory is simple enough. Each solenoid opens a different pathway for the amps to the motor. Each path has a different built in resistance factor....These are your speed switches.
PS: if u can't find em, u can't trouble shoot em. LOL

cool scotty, here is the diagram of what i am talking... i am a clicking/understanding with the solenoids and limit/speed switches, my question how does the excellerator pedal communicate with the solenoids/switches? guess i need to get under her and stace linkage and wires to find the switches that way. it may not be hitting that last switch good every time without popping the pedal. we wil get it one way or another and thanks for support. brad
