going 48v???
I have a few ??? for those of you who have converted from 36-48v.
#1. I know it's a no no to mix new and old batteries my batteries are about a year old and I would hate to have to wait 5 or so more years to upgrade to 48v. since my batteries are not too old do you think it would be ok??? #2. I will need a charger, I have read about some of you who have used a separate 12v charger to charge the 2 extra batteries, I have a little 6 amp 12v charger that I would be able to use until I got the proper charger, do the extra batteries have to be disconnected from the pack every time you charge??? #3 I have 4 ga. cables, 480 amp 36/48v controller, 36v motor and a Hd F/R switch so from what I've read all I need is a 48v solenoid, correct???? from what ive read it seems all I need is the solenoid a charger and 2 6v batteries, just want to be sure im on the right track...... |

Re: going 48v???
I responded in the 'What have you done...' thread but i will put it here for others to read also. I have asked the techs at D&D more than once what to expect from this or that motor on 48v. The answer is uniformly 2-3 mph increase in speed. I don't know why this is compared to stock motors which respond with higher rpms when more voltage is applied but, I get the same answer each time from them. and I do have the D&D high torque motor on my Ezgo Industrial with 8/6v T105 and I can attest to it's lack of speed although I have never gps-ed it.

Re: going 48v???
you think it would turn the 22" tires with high speed gears and a 48v upgrade, I would think it would gain speed with the gears but the torque would stay about the same which would be fine, Im not sure what the gear ratio thats in it is, I imagine they are stock gears whatever that is.

Re: going 48v???
good luck. i did the same thing. my batts. were one year old, so took a chance and added just two new ones. i know it is not the best, but so far so good. on charging i used two chargers like you are talking about for a good while. no need to unhook any thing, just leave your original charge wires hooked up between third and the last batts. then use the 12v on the first two. if you already have a hd 36v solenoid this can be used. just need to be activated by 36v. with this set up, on 23s it runs 20.8 mph. and good torque.
almost allmy info came from gorno. check out his thread-zo6 goes 48. |
