Default Getting a bit more zip out of a stock series cart.

Hi guys. I've been reading the forum for a couple weeks now and just joined. I've recently acquired a stock 07 series cart that's been upgraded with head and tail lights, windshield, rear seat. Otherwise, she's pretty much just like she left the golf course 36 volt, 2010 Trojans that seem to be in good shape.

My question is, what's the most cost effective way to get just a bit more zip out of the cart? Not looking for a big jump, just a bit more top end. I know I could swap out the motor or go to a lift and bigger wheels, or go to 48 volts, but can I, for instance just change out the controller to something that will hit the existing motor a little harder without frying anything? This is FL, so it's pretty flat, and I'd be happy to swap out a little torque for a little more speed.

I get that speed = money, but can I get a bit more speed for a bit more money?

Thanks for all the informative posts. I've learned a TON just reading here for a while.

Lee

Welcome Lee !!!

You could go to a 400 amp unit without changing your motor, but you will also need a new solenoid, fuse, diode. You should also go to 4 gauge wires. You will gain some speed, but not a bunch. It is a start, of coarse you will want more later.

How big, HP wise, is the motor in my cart, or how do I find out?

I am not sure about the HP of your cart, but the only way to get a series cart to go faster is spend $$$$$. I believe it is a 3hp motor, but I not sure to be exact. Just to clarify is your fnr lever by your leg or on the dash?

Curious as to what your top speed is now. My '96 Series tops out at about 14-15 mph with one (read fat) person....lol

It's definitely a series cart. F/R lever at the knee. No switch on the dash. Nothing under the seat.

I'm not going to make big changes to it, as I'm basically happy with it as is. Just wondering if there was a good bang for the buck way to kick it up a notch.

I haven't clocked the speed yet, but I'm guessing more than 10 and less than 20 mph somewhere with myself and my wife on board on flat ground. I'll grab the Garmin out of the car and take it for a ride and see what it says.

You are not going to get much speed out of a stock series motor. It is made for torque. Motor upgrade and all the good stuff Losthusker said and its high ho sliver away.

You will gain a slight increase in speed with the controller, your torque will improve especially if you have hills you and your wife are currently climbing. You could also get your motor redone at PQ for a little bit of change, that would be a 20% increase in torque and speed,,but the controller will be the start and see how it is for ya from there.

I talked to plum quick about a motor upgrade for my '96. They said 20% increase in speed. So basically 2 mph.
