Researching new build options
I am starting to gather ideas for building a cart for my daugher. The Series cart I have currently has been a great set up thanks to the electrical upgrades from ScottyB, lift kit, tires, brakes, etc. I would like to give my daugher a cart to use for a birthday a little over a year from now. We have nothing but hills where we live. She is starting to drive our cart with supervision but if it were not for the hyraulic rears discs she would be in trouble going down the hills. I do not want her to have the capability of reaching the speed we currently achieve going down hill.
I am seeing more and more PDS carts for sale in my area and less Series. I am intrigued with the PDS cart for her for one reason - regen braking. I completely understand why PDS carts are not well suited for off road carts and hills, but the added safety aspect is what is drawing me to them. I have read several threads where it seems some have done well with off road PDS carts with new controllers, upgraded cables, etc. I would plan to do a 3" spindle lift with 10" wheels, 20" tires as well as the new solenoid, controller, 4 ga cables, etc. I an not clear if an upgraded controller removes the regen brake feature of the PDS carts. If someone could fill me in I would appreciate it. Any other ideas, comments, welcome. Thanks guys. |

Re: Researching new build options
A 400 amp alltrax would work well and it still retains the Regen. You can actually program it to go slow(13-14 mph range) and also set the regen break speed. You should also think about a high torque motor or a PQ motor rebuild with a PDS cart. All your other mods look fine and the 20 inch tires are fine, I am running them with the stock controller.

Re: Researching new build options
as an alternate (since you didn't mention the budget), you could always go with an AC motor setup. They have regen braking, they have more torque than even that series cart you have and you can get the controller set for whatever speed you want the cart to go.
