Default Battery question

I've had my 1989 EZGO Marathon for a couple weeks now, it's out at our campsite so I've been working with it on weekends.
It supposedly had new batteries installed last summer. I tested each battery individually and 5 of them read just over 6 volts, the one reads negative 6 volts...WTF!, I checked numerous times, red lead on positive, black lead on negative, again -6 volts.
What I'm thinking Is the guy I bought the cart from charged the before putting them in the cart for the season and charged this on backwards.
My question is... If I totally drain the battery can I charge it the correct polarity? Will it be ok, or is it scrap??

Yes you can try it but sometimes they won't stay..... best to exchange it where you bought it..... and do not run them down soooo low.

I have seen numerous batteries right off the pallet read negative voltage. It happens during the manufacturing process. the battery gets spun around backwards on the conveyor before the charge process. Usually, with a brand new one, I can get it replaced under warranty. You may be able to get warranty on yours.....

Interstate batteries can be returned for exchange anywhere Interstate batteries are sold, even your local auto repair shop if they sell interstate.

If those are the green top, they should have a part number that reads GC2 and then either RD, HD or XHD. What part number do you have?

nice, the XHD are supposed to have a 12 month warranty on them, but I know my local distributer has done the 18 month warranty in order to match the warranty of the Trojan T-105. Best advise is to contact the local distributer directly and ask them where they would like you to take it for warranty exchange.
