Default Burned up motor?

Ive got a 2007 EZGO PDS thats lifted with 22" tires. I upgraded the controller to a alltrax 400 amp 6 months ago and all the wires on the batteries are 4 ga. Ive had no problems. This weekend my 10 yr old had all his buddies on it and it shut down and the motor was sizzling and a hot smell came off it. Im sure he was driving it hard. I checked my batteries and all connections look good. Ive got around 6.4 on each battery and 38.6 and the end. It just shakes hard when you drive it. Is my stock motor just burned up? I looked at alot of searches and nothing ive seen fits my problem. Thanks

Sounds like a fried motor to me.... Give Plum Quick a call and see if they can assist you in a rebuild.......

Just had the same thing happen to my 2002 pds cart it also has 22'" tires, 4 gauge wiring and a DCX400 controller (Mine lasted aprox. two years this way). I took apart the motor and one of the brushes was fried, everything else looks good. I ordered a set of brushes from ezgo for $55.00 for all four. Figured that I would try rebuilding it myself while I save up the money for a plum quick bandit upgrade. Are you running with turbo and regenerative braking on? I am thinking about turning the regenerative braking off to keep the temperature down on the motor.

Guy's I have a 04 PDS with the stock controller 300amp with 17" wheels and a PQ motor. It runs 24 MPH all day with just me on board. We drive this thing 6 -12 miles a day sometimes when we are here.

If you're motor was seriously overheated it cannot be rebuilt, you will need a new one. You will only know this if you take it apart and look at the windings and armature. If they are badly discolored the motor is toast without a new armature and complete rewind.

So PQ can't work on them after they get fried? I was hoping that I could run my stock motor for a year or two on my new 400amp controller. Then, after saving up and/or burning my motor up, send it to PQ for a rebuild.

Well why don't you just spend the money now to get the entire rebuild. It's not expensive at all and you run the risk of burning up your controller too with an old motor.

PQ is not a remanufacturer, they are a rewinder for performance.
It is cost prohibitive and would be rare that any of the rewinders would have the equipment or process in place to do a complete remanufacture.
Most motor parts come from China, Korea, Europe etc and are assembled in the US.

I'm not exactly sure which PQ upgrade I have to get (their website only has Club Car listed). But the minimum looks to be $250. I've already spent over $1k on this thing in the last 3 months just to get it running. Now not everyone has the same budget and $250 is quite a bit to me. Especially since I have a lot of other things I "need" to buy for my cart. I still have lights and other things to be done before Haloween just so I can take my daughter trick-or-treating.

Are you sure about risking the controller being burned up? That's the first I've heard of that. I know you risk burning up a stock contoller with an upgraded motor. But I have an upgraded controller and stock motor.

You always run a risk of a burning up a controller if the motor is old and worn out regardless of the size of the controller.

Just recently here on the forum we had a member that purchased an upgraded controller from Scotty. His motor was bad (plus he made some mistakes in wiring) and it basically fried the controller immeadiately.
