Powerwise EZ-GO 36v Charger
I just had new interstate batteries put in my 2003 36v EZ-GO. I have the PowerWise charger that came with the cart. Do I need to perform an "equalizing charge" so that the sulphates will not build up or does this charger "do it all". I guess my question is..Do I need to perform maintenance other that cleaning and making sure it is charged at the end of the day and keep the cells properly filled?
Thanks |

Re: Powerwise EZ-GO 36v Charger
Be sure to fully charge them before using them the first time.
You've got to break-in new batteries properly to get the full potential from them. Site sponsor, ScottyB has some great Battery info on his website (Carts Unlimited) http://www.cartsunlimited.net/ Read it all. Here's the URL to the battery break-in procedure. http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Batter...n_Methods.html Sounds like you already know that the fuller you keep your batteries charged, the longer they last, never discharge below 50% and only add water when fully charged. Periodically measure the individual battery voltages and if/when they get more than 0.1V away from each other, it is time to do the equalization procedure. The interconnecting cables on your new batteries look fairly new, but the cables from the battery pack to the controller don't and the B+ connector looks a bit corroded in the picture. (Of course, that might just be these old eyes) Can't tell what gauge they are, but they ought be the same size all the way to the motor. Last edited by JohnnieB; 08-19-2011 at 12:54 PM.. Re: Powerwise EZ-GO 36v Charger
Yes. Just unplug the charger from the cart after it automatically shuts of, wait a moment or two and then plug it back in. IIRC, the EZGO site says do it three times.
I've never deliberately did an equalization, but I have put my cart back on charge after only driving it a mile or two. Actually, my cart is connected to the charger every night, if I dodn't use it, it simply stays connected. My batteries were >0.1V apart when I got the cart and are now <0.1V. I also upgraded to all 2Ga silver soldered cables. Those cables to the controller definitely look better in the latest picture. I'm not overly fond of the bare wire being expose because corrosion gets inside the wire and crimp, but they look okay. With the closed end type (either crimp or solder) you can cover the air gap with shrink warp and keep the acid laden air out. |
