Hi -
I am working on a project using an 8HP golf cart electric motor that has the standard 19-spline female receiver hub on it. I just need a 19-spline male that fits in it with a few inches of shaft. I *think* that if someone has this shaft, it typically has a transmission gear on the end of it. I DON'T CARE if that gear is damaged or not as I will be cutting it off. So, if you have such an item in your trash pile or know of where I can get one, I'd appreciate an e-mail from you. I'm offering $25 plus shipping for it - unless you're feeling generous. My project? A trailer-hitch mounted electric "pusher" for my car. I'm hoping to do around 25mph around town if I gear this thing right. The shaft in question will be coupled to a motorcycle final drive transmission. Thanks for any help you can give me! I'll keep you posted on this project if you are so-inclined... I have done some odd projects like that myself, I believe that splined socket is pressed on, and you may be able to press it off with a bearing type hydraulic press. Also, the motor shaft is of very soft material. You might also consider welding a hub or other shaft to the splined socket. I had to go the other rout. I was using a golf cart differential and wanted to use a gas engine. I just stripped everything off of a junk motor, down to the shaft, cut a key way into the shaft that had the splined socket on it, and added a U-joint yolk I got from Tractor Supply.

Thanks for the ideas. I should check into what a machine shop would charge to press off the hub, though I'm worried they might damage the windings on the shaft, assuming I could figure out how to get it out of the motor housing in the first place.
I have made no more progress on this primarily due to an on and off sick child. Hopefully I'll have more time coming up soon. Again, thanks. Scott |
