Default 2000 EZ GO TXT rear axle assembly problem

Just bought a 2000 EZ GO TXT, came with a high speed D&D motor installed, but was making metal grinding noise from the rear-end. Jacked the cart up and placed on stands. Removed the rear seat and visually everything looked fine. Charged the batteries, which tested out fine, so I applied some gas and only right wheel spun. Checked the left wheel and gave it a little tug to be left with the wheel, hub and axle in my hand. The axle completely pulled out of the assembly. Where do I start? Does anyone have a schematic of how the rear assembly goes together? I'm assuming I need to rebuilt the whole backend, and while I'm fairly handy, I've never done this before. Help. Thanks.

There's a few things it could be, sounds like a bad bearing, or there is a C clip that holds the axle in that may of come out, I'am not sure, so start by taking the tire off, and start looking to see what went wrong

Would you completely remove the assembly from the cart or can this be worked from underneath?

You may only need a rear axle bearing, seal, and retaining clip.

The reason the axle came out is the bearing disintegrated. Half of it is still in the tube along with the retaining clip. The inner half is on the shaft and the bearing balls are everywhere, Look down the tube with a flashlight & or drop the pan to be sure you won't get one in the gears... refresh the 30wt oil upon reassembly.

It is an open axle, so one wheel will power up at a time.... Do both sides. The other axle bearing and seal has just as many miles on it..... they are a sealed unit with a limited lifespan.

This is the only place your going to be working on first, I would jack the cart up, and put it on jack stands, pull the axle out that you said slide's out, and see if the bearing is on the axle or in the housing of the rear end?, and see where the--- C --- clip is that should be in front of the bearing first, no need to remove the whole rear end yet .

Thanks guys. Looked into the axle and there were bearings all over the place. Removed the bearings and the inner snap ring, but there's nothing else.

Need to go tomorrow and buy new replacements. What should I be purchasing?

Seal
Inner snap ring
bearing
outer snap ring

Anything else?

I think I'm going to replace both sides. Figured might as well.

Also, when reinstalling everything (stupid questions coming), does the axle go in first or do all the seals/bearings etc? I don't see what holds the axle from slipping out.

The bearing is pressed onto the axle. If the original bearing has come apart, plan alot of time and patience for removing the outter rim of the old bearing.....

That was a royal pain, but I ended up getting the outer rim out. The axle nut is stuck so I'm hoping tomorrow, using an impact wrench, I can get it off. I'm assuming the inner rim of the bearing is still attached to the axle. Any tips on the easiest way to remove this?
