Making a Plum Quick PDS?
Well, I've been doing a little more off roading, and I NEED more torque. I have an 08 PDS on 22" tires with a rear seat (rarely used). I have 4 AWG cables all the way around, stock motor, stock controller, freedom chip. I emailed Robby, and he gave me a quick answer, I'm sure he's very busy. He mentioned removing the regen. My motor is in good shape for a re-wind, and would rather do it now than cook it and have to pay the core charge, much less smoke a new Alltrax.
I plan on going with a DCX 400, 200Amp solenoid (specs below) and a PQ bandit upgrade. I think I'm going to stay 36 V, don't want batteries in the back and don't want to shorten my drive time with 6 - 8V. What is involved in "removing" the regen? and is this 100% necessary? I'm currently running 20-21 MPH, which is good for me. I just want more torque/power, and maintain my same top speed. (I wouldn't be too upset if it came out a little faster) Am I missing anything?? Solenoid specs: For use with Alltrax 300-400 Amp controllers Voltage: 36 volt coil Current: 200 amps continuous, 800 amps surge (2 seconds) Contacts: Silver oxide Terminals: 5/16" main lug, #10 coil Mounting: 2-up to 1/4" |

Mrs. G has the same cart. I'll be watching this closely.

Well when you get the bandit upgrade they will get rid of the regen braking and the wire coming off the motor. The controller is programmable to remove all regen braking an the turbo option. Be looking at 25mph.

Colt, fill me in a little more on the turbo option. You say you need to remove both the regen and the turbo option when programing the controller???

Re: Making a Plum Quick PDS?
Well the dcx controller does not use regen braking from the motor. In fact when you have it wound by PQ they remove the regen and the pigtail coming off of the motor. I spoke with Robby and he said that ALL REGEN MUST BE TURNED OFF AS WELL AS THE TURBO OPTION.
The turbo option is a feature only on DCX controllers that when under a light load will allow you to go faster at 100% throttle. Correct me if I'm wrong. It can cause over heating issues with the motor and controller. |

Ok, controller done, with turbo on. I don't feel any kind of "turbo" effects. It's WAY more peppy from the stop and doesn't slow on the mild hills anymore, holds 22 MPH on flat or uphill...load or no load. It will even chirp the tires backing up the driveway!
More to come... |

Scooter, the Bandit will give you even more bump.. No one believes me but, I have an 03 PDS with a DCX 400, 4 ga on the main wires, 2 ga to the PQ Bandit running 36 volts and she tops out at just over 30 GPS. It may have high speed gears but haven't checked. Motor is well worth it.
