More speed needed
I have a 2005 EZ-GO lifted wit 23" tires, I converted it to non-PDS, I have the GE "Beast" torque motor with high speed gears, 727amp speed controller, bigger wires. I just upgraded it to 48 volts and I am getting up to approx. 24mph and can pull the front tires off the ground. I am looking for more top end speed. Any suggestions????

Re: More speed needed
Welcome to BGW
Larger tires or more voltage, plain and simple. What gears do you have now? |

Re: More speed needed
When adding more voltage, I Hear a lot about 72 volts. Is that 3 more 8 volts or 2 12 volts? What kind of increase can I expect? Do I need another new charger? The cart is fun but I am tired about hearing people with club cars with D&D motors getting 37mph.

Re: More speed needed
You should have picked another package then. A beast motor is great for one thing....torque. A beast responds well to more voltage. You need to try and keep your batteries all the same brand/type.

Re: More speed needed
I just replaced them 3 weeks ago so and only used the cart 2x. Can I stilo add the new batteries? They are Trojan T-875's. I don't mind spending the money to up grade the motor if needed. The torque is amazing but to get more speed, I don"t mind swapping back and forth depending on my mood. A buddie told me to send the motor to Plum Qiuck to get it re-wound. If you think I can still add new batteries, I will.

Re: More speed needed
Yes, you can just get the same kind of batteries and it will be just fine. The motor will be kickass with some more juice going to it. Your going to need a different controller though. On 72 volts you are gaining about 3X the power....rpm's will "almost" double. I wouldn't send that motor anywhere and let anyone touch it.

3 more 8-volts or 2- 12 volt batteries? Where do I get the new speed controller and what kind? Do I need a new battery charger?

Re: More speed needed
Get the same thing you have now...I guess three 8 volt batts. You can use 2 36 volt chargers...but your better off buying a 72 volt.....the controller.....Alltrax has an AXE 7245 that works well...logisystems make a 72 volt but I have never ran one. One thing for sure....a beast on 72 will still wheelie (even more) and you will get plenty of speed.
calculate the beast on 36 volts and then double it for 72.....and you will actually gain some runtime because it will be more efficiant. |

Re: More speed needed
Thanks sooo much for the info. I am sure you have seen all the BS I have from everone over promising and under delivering with all the upgrades offered today. Would you possibly have a website or phone number for the speed controller companies named?
