Resistor coil getting extremely hot
Is it normal for the resistor coils to get extremely hot, to the point you can smell it. When I remove the seat it is too hot to put your hand any where near the coils.
What should I look for as a problem?? I just changed the speed switch board and wiper. The wiper was arcing across the board so I replaced them. It never got hot like this before I changed it |

Re: Resistor coil getting extremely hot
What voltage are you running? Resistor coils get hot, and the older they get the hotter they run.

Re: Resistor coil getting extremely hot
It's a 36 volt cart. Maybe I should change the coils just to be safe

Re: Resistor coil getting extremely hot
I am unfamiliar with resister carts but would bad or corroded joints make for extra heat?

Re: Resistor coil getting extremely hot
Is it worth trying to clean a resistor coil? Or would you run the risk of possibly breaking it? I have thought about trying to clean up the one on my cart with a wire brush.

Re: Resistor coil getting extremely hot
I'm not sure if I should bother changing it at this point, as I am planning on getting one of Scottyb's conversion kits.

Re: Resistor coil getting extremely hot
Make sure you have these connected correctly! Check the stickies at the top of the page. There are 3 coils and it does matter where they are connected!
