Solenoid getting hot
I have a 94 EZGO electric that has new batteries and all new wires, the F/R lugs have also been changed. The cart runs but after it runs for a little while it quits, when i looked under the seat the solenoid is to hot to touch. After it cools it will run again, but then does the same thing. Any suggestions?

Re: Solenoid getting hot
If the solenoid is getting too hot to touch, the contacts are brunt or pitted. Replace the solenoid.

Re: Solenoid getting hot
Are you using an auto parts store solenoid? They will not work for golf carts!

Re: Solenoid getting hot
does your cart have a tow/run switch under the seat, on the controller cover??
does the cart look like a marathon, or a TXT cart |

Re: Solenoid getting hot
If the solenoid is getting too hot to touch, either an abnormal resistance exists between the contacts or an abnormally high current is flowing through them.
A stock solenoid may not have the ampacity needed if your cart has been modified. The other symptom mentioned (Edited version below) may be the controller going into a thermal shutdown. Quote:
What size tires are you using? How many passengers? What type terrain are you driving on? (Hills/flat On-road/Off-road) What type of driving are you doing? (Fast/Slow/Creep) Golf carts, especially older ones, were designed to carry two golfers and two sets of golf clubs over fairly level terrain on 18" tire at WOT most of the time. Stray very far from those parameters and you'll have to upgrade the drive system (Controller, Solenoid, F/R Switch, Cables and Motor) to handle the increased demands on it. Re: Solenoid getting hot
The new wires are delivering more amperage, especially if the new wires are bigger? (you didn't say?)
Anyway try a higher rated solenoid. |
