Default 48V 1000E Controller Issue???

I have a 2006 EZGO 1000E Utility Vehicle that had a harness issue. I repaired the wires. The cart was at a Club Car dealer-(taken by the owner)- and they replaced the foot pedal switch, solenoid-(used a Club Car solenoid)- and told him that it needed a controller. I can get it to go forward, but no reverse. It won't energize the solenoid. If I turn the key off, the buzzer sounds, but doesn't come on when the key is on. I reversed the the wires at the direction selctor switch on the dash to rule it out, and it is ok. I have gotten some weird codes from the controller. Low battery voltage and then a bad controller. I have seen these issues before with a bad harness. Anyone else have this issue? Don't want to throw parts at it, and as usual the codes are of no use.
Thanks for your help.

This is a PDS drive Cart that has lost one direction. (typical failure) A dealer has told you it needs a controller. (That's my guess too), The cart is giving a code telling you it needs a controller? ........................................ What is the question?

I have seen these controllers give erratic codes needing contactors and/or a new controller or a welded motor when the unit moves ok. Just asking if any one else has seen these controllers lose one direction after a harness repair.

That still a pretty general question? Which wires in the harness needed repair? Did they short out against the frame? Field wires against the frame can smoke the control. Again, can you be more specific?

The red wires in the harness at the right frame rail came apart at the crimp. Don't know if they shorted as they were just pulled apart again from a bad previous repair. Hate to throw a controller at it to find out it was further up/down in the harness.
