Default 36v - 48v conversion ??

I am considering upgrading from 36v to 48v soon. I understand that going with 8 6v batteries will provide longer run time and the most power. My question is really how much power and run time would I loose by going to 6 8v batteries?

I really don't want to run 8 6v batteries because the only real way for me to do it would be to run 2 batteries in the club well. So I am considering just using 6 brand new Trojan 875s.

I do not do heavy duty off-road, or large hills; mostly flat grassy terrain and pavement.

I appreciate any and all comments.

You will be fine. Yeah longer run with 6v but if you don't do anything crazy I think the 8v will keep you happy.

Since higher voltage systems use less amperage your run time on 6/8v will be about the same as a gd 36v system.... where guys get into trouble is with big controllers and motors that really suck down the amps. That is when the 30% more battery storage capacity comes into play

Here I have 8 T145 batteries for max storage to feed the new SPM 500 and PQ motor.

When you upgrade to 48v and use 6x8v batteries, your power both torque and speed will increase by about 30%.
If you drive at top speed, your distance covered will be about the same or a little less but your run time will be at least 30% less.

pilot, don't know how far or long you drive. i wish i had used 6-8s, cause i just drive around the hood and down to the lake and that would have worked fine for me. tho i don't think they look too bad in the back and i don't golf. you will love 48.

Another factor nobody talks about is useful life of 8v versus 6v. There is a noticeably shorter life span for the average 6/8v pack than a 6/6v pack.
Somewhere in the 20-25% shorter...

In the service industry we see this in terms of replacement frequency .... while you may hear or read about battery packs making historic runs on longevity we see the average lifespan of a 6v pack at 5 yrs and 8v pack at 4 yrs ...... you can argue and counter post, you can tell stories about Gramma's Ezgo, but we have service records to back this up.

Awesome responses as usual. Thank you all for the info.

I think I will look at going with the 6 - 8 volts. I just need to get another charger and solenoid.

I converted mine to 48v. I used 8-6v and put the extra two in the bagwell. At 36v the cart would run 20mph with me 260lbs. I haven't radared it with 48v but it has neck snapping take offs and a extra 7 or so mph top end. You will like the 48v conversion which ever direction you go. I use this site for information and advise for my mods.

Hopefully I can work out the conversion in the next week; two at the latest. Can't wait.
