Default 48 volt

I am thinking of converting my cart from 36 to 48 volt. Does anyone know of a good place to buy a 48 volt charger? Thanks

Welcome to BGW. You will enjoy the 48v upgrade! What kind of cart are you going to convert?

My friend just bought a 91 Marathon to refurbish.....Got it home and we lifted the seat to find six 8 volt batteries, a 48v solenoid, and a 36v - 48v 580amp controller, and 48v motor. SO yes, it has been done.
I have done two of these conversions without changing the 36 volt motor. The older 36v series motors will handle 48v. Like the '89 below

Data sheet says output is 18 amps max @ 48v?

Not sure I am understanding your question???
18A is OK and very generally speaking, solid state chargers use a charging algorithm often utilizing less amps than "conventional" chargers. Each charging algorithm is based on the type of battery deployed.

Hope that answers your question.

I got another question. Is there a big difference in run time when switching from 6 volt batteries to 8 volt batteries?

Higher voltage is generally more efficiant. You should see at least a small increase in runtimes.

Generally speaking, you should get longer run times from eight 6v than six 8v.
Afterall you would have more lead onboard.

But, you will also be lugging more wieght around and have extra expense of 2 more?
