48V upgrade without motor change?
Howdy...Got a 2002 Series EZ Go-Can I convert to 48v with new batteries, 500 amp controller, solenoid, etc. and keep my old stock motor for now till I accumulate a little more cash? Will I notice any sizeable gains w/out the motor change? What are the negatives of not changing the motor right now? It GPS'ed at 15 mph stock. Its got a 4 inch lift w/ 22 inch tires. Muchos Garcias

Re: 48V upgrade without motor change?
Mine has been surviving 84 volts for a while now.
You think your motor will be ok on 48V? Of course it will be unless you are rock climbing or towing a truck with it all the time. Seriously it will love it,so will you! Gains? More power. ( speed and torque) Negatives? Your wallet will be heavier in your pocket...can't think of anything else. Barna |

Re: 48V upgrade without motor change?
For an 02 Ezgo Series cart this is the biggest bang for your buck upgrade you can make. You can keep the stock motor. and run it reliably on 48v. How long it will last depends...... it depends first on what kind of use or abuse it has had and it depends upon whether or not you are willing to limit it to 400 amps and what type of work it must do and what kind of driver you are.... expect a yr or 2 easily & maybe 5 yrs if you are reasonable with it.
Increasing voltage will increase both Speed and torque proportionately to the voltage increase - in this case 30% or so. But you must upgrade the whole drive system to handle the increased power. That means new cables and beefed up F&R and new controller and solenoid.... |

Re: 48V upgrade without motor change?
Is there an onboard computer or module that determines the charge rate on a 2002 series cart? Or when doing the 48v upgrade is it as simple as just getting a new 48v charger? Ever heard of EV Drives? They sell a 48v charger on ebay for $275. Thanks.

I've dealt with EV drives a few times and I have always been pleased with their service. Good company.

Re: 48V upgrade without motor change?
I have a 2001 version, 48V, 500amp FSIP set at 400amps, HD Cam, 2 ga cables and was at 15mph before the conversion to 48V and 20mph after, stock motor. You will love it. The charger I chose was the 48V from LVS and I like it. It keeps a monitor on it like most good chargers do and will turn on occasionally to make sure it's topped off. Paid $285 for it straight from LVS.
My 2ga cables came from EV Drives and I also had a good transaction with them with a prompt reply to my e-mail question. ScottyB and EVDrives were both excellent to deal with! |

Re: 48V upgrade without motor change?
IS it the DPI charger? I sell it for $250 but hey why are you messing with an ODC and an aftermarket charger? They don't need each other.
