Default Rear stoplights and headlights come on when braking

When I press the brake pedal the rear stoplights and the headlights come on, anyone have any ideas on why the headlights are coming on also. I have checked the wiring and all looks good? Headlights, blinkers all work and there does not seem to be any other problems.

I have doubled checked all the wiring, all looks good, I am wondering if it could be the brake micro switch, does anyone know how to bypass it to check it or should I just replace it and take it out of the equation?

Aussie, it would make me think that a hot or neg wire is touching underneath the cart so when you activate your brakes it is sending voltage down the other line. What kind of brake switch do you have, is it the one installed into the pedal, or is it aftermarket?

That is a symptom of a bad ground for the stop lights
or a miss wire to tail light.

Thanks for the reply LostHusker, 2007 TXT came from the Dealer with lights and genuine ezgo brake micro switch installed.

There are 3 wires coming out of the tail light, there are 4 wires running to the tail. The negative, the blinker and the brown wire from the micro switch joins the tail light wire. As a test I ran the brown wire from the brake micro switch to the blinker wire and when I push the brake the tail lights and the headlights all come on together and are flashing?

Thanks for the reply DOOmsman, I will check and see if I have a bad ground somewhere.

The tail light bulb should be a 2 filament bulb. The smaller filament wired to the light circuit with the headlights and the other larger filament wired to the stop micro switch.... sound like they may have switched the 2 leads somewhere... curious if the running lights are brighter than the stop lights..... of course that is not a definitive test but if they are it will be easy to sort.

Hey Scotty thanks for your reply, I have LEDs in the tail lights, however I put the old filament bulb tail lights back on and it did the same thing, when I press the brake the headlights are on and they seem strong light (not dull).

I then ran a separate brown wire from the micro switch to the tail light and it worked fine, when I added the tail light wire to the brown wire and I pressed the brake both tail lights and headlights came on together. It has been baffled at the moment.

If the brown wire from the microswitch joins with the wire to the tail lights and there must be somewhere when I press the brake that the light activates the tail light and if the headlights come one then power is going from the brown wire to the headlights via somewhere. The micro switch only activates the brown wire to the tail lights huh? it doesn't do anything else does it?

There are 2 positive wires to the taillight socket. One is connected with the headlights ... these are running lights and the other is stop lights only..... somehow yours are switched. It could have been connected wrong originally?

thanks Scotty, so let me get this straight before I try it, 3 wires coming out of tail light, one wire from tail light to negative, one wire from tail light to brown wire from micro switch for stop lights, then I have 2 wires left, does only one of those wires connects to the 3rd wire from the tail light and that means the fourth wire doesn't get connected? is that what you are saying buddy? just trying to get everything fixed before my big package from you arrives LOL
