Default 1984 Western Golf Cart Body Removal

Hello all, does anyone have experience removing the body on a 1984 Western Golf Cart mounted on an EZ go frame. I thought someone on here was a Western Mechanic. Can anybody help? Thanks, Doug

Hi Scotty, I need to weld on the frame and do a general inspection. I am considering making my own suspension for it. The Cart is a hand me down but it looks good except the tilt due to bad springs on the drivers side. It didnt look like there is a front clip like most golf carts. I just thought you had to get rid of all the rivets and pull it but there is more to it. I was just wonder ing if anyone has done this before. D

I have not heard of anybody taking one off, but I'll tell you if I ever got the nose off of an early western I would darn sure put something else back on .....

I was laughing reading Scotty's comments and he's absolutely right.
He's done lots of Western carts and I have done a few as well.
I too have never seen one taken apart and don't really see why one would ever need to pull the body.

Thanks for the replys guys. Are you saying that guys would put them on a lift or something then to work on them or are you saying that they are tanks and not worth working on? Sorry cant quit read between the lines. Would I be barking up the wrong tree to do any modifications to this thing? The only reason why I am playing with this thing was I got it for the right price...FREE and it runs!

Westerns are a love/hate relationship for me.
I love the drive systems on the late model TXT based carts. Fact is I love the TXT platform.
Earlier than 1994 Westerns were built on the Marathon Platform which was the heavier predecessor. Being an earlier model it is less refined and not as mechanic friendly, in my opinion.
The 'Western' conversion or modification added a considerable weight to the cart, something the Marathon did not need. The early design with the 'Delorean' nose, made access to the front suspension and steering components difficult. They were made 70 miles from here. Hardly a week goes by I don't work on one.
They are as good as an Ezgo. Identify the drive system in yours and upgrade to Solid State if needed. Here's a picture of an unusual lifted early Western.... It was resistor coil and I converted it to SS 48v

And pics of some later model Westerns.

P.S.
They are subject to all the rust spots that a regular ezgo is and then some places of their own designs that trap wet grass clippings, so yes, get under it and check the structure before investing in modifications.

Scotty, The cart is 36V resistor cart. What system would you recommend. I noticed on your site a number of different components. Any guidance would be great. When you say the cart being heavier it does weigh in around 900lbs. What does the later TXT versions weigh for comparison. Funny thing, I like the Delorean nose because it is uniques to everything I have seen on BGW. I am kinda diggin the first picture. Would you have any specifics on that cart? Thanks in advance. Doug

Here's to reviving an old thread and hope that scotty sees it since he seems to have history with these carts.

Hey Scotty, I've located a Western Model 400 2 seater in my area for a good price. No issues. However I'm wondering if anyone was ever successful in putting a rear seat kit on it. Or.... do you think I could remove the body and just put a new kit on it? I've read everywhere it was a TXT frame but not only was the body custom, but also that the frame was modified. I'd like to buy it as long as it would accept a spartan body kit.

Thank you sir!
