Default Disc Brakes

If you install front wheel hydraulic disc brakes, is that enough? Will that work well enough to be safe? I just don't think I want to spend enough to put the disc all the way around, but thought that if it's good enough for a full sized vehicle, it certainly should be enough for a golf cart. Your thoughts/experience?

You can do the Ausco setup from Scotty, they remove your stock rear drums and they still use your cable setup. Not too hard to install, and the braking is much improved over the originals. You can also go the hydraulic ones from whelsca they also have a two drive version. Just some info.

I would think that would work great! and I'm assuming you are keeping the rear drums. As long as you can porportion them to not over power the drums. They make them for front only. so I would think there's a way. Give em a call and let us know.....

The hydraulic disc brakes are 100-150 times more braking pressure than the cable shoe set up. Even if you can get the peddle to balance out the engagement of both systems the pressures in front will exceed the rears to the point of system imbalance. The result will be fronts locking up on anything other than dry pavement, any kind of wet grass or dirt hill or leaf covered hill. I have discussed this at length with a few people including Rick at Wheels the general agreement is you will get better safer braking with rear only discs no matter who's brakes you choose.

Ask Essness he has rear only discs. So do a few others.

I have rear only discs. they are the cable actuated ausco's and work great. I can lock the wheels if I want to.

I can attest to the benefits of the hydrolic rear discs. They work very well, so much so that when I drive a cart on a course it seems like it is almost dangerous. My setup was from Scotty B as well. I was trying to determine if the front discs and stock drums was the way to go as well. From a safety standpoint it made more sense to have the rears lock up compared to the fronts locking up. From a price stand point the hydraulic rears were not much more than the front disc kit. I would highly recommend the hydraulic rear discs.

I did not like that the rear wheels would lockup and skid on the gravel driveway. I when with the 4 wheel hydraulic disk brakes and love them. They are very smooth and stop very well. My cart will do around 35 mph down slope and they are very nice.

His post states that they are for non-lifted carts though. That concerns me.
