Default Newly purchased 1996 36V EZ-Go Electric cart

I recently purchased a 1996 EZ-Go cart from my work. It has been sitting in side for about 5 years and up until recently i dont think it had any problems. It dosent move and i assumed it was dead so i plugged it in to charge(Total Charge III) and it doesn't Hum or show anything on the meter. there is a reset button on the front but it appears to be stuck out and i cant push it in. I dont know much about electrical so i dont even know where to begin. I dont have a lot of money but i am willing to get my hands dirty if anyone can recommend a place to start.

step one,,,, check the voltage of the batteries, most battery chargers will not turn on unless a certain amount of voltage is detected, and if it set for 5 years I would exspect the batteries are zero volt.

You can charge them 2 at a time with a 12v auto charger until they reach 26v as a bunch

yurtle, i think scotty meant 26. that is the voltage the charger has to "see" to turn on.

I suggest that you check the progress of the charging every hour or so,, make sure the batteries are not getting hot, loosing water, making a vapor. If you see water on top,,turn off charger at charger or unplug from wall, BUT DON'T unhook at battery,(you might make a spark near the battery gass and BLOW UP.wait a while and use fan to ventalate before unhooking at the battery terminals...
If they ran down slow, you should try to recharge slow.

Great! Thanks for the help guys. I'll give it a go and hope they take a charge (with out any explosive gas). Happy Thanksgiving!
