Default 1993 EZGO Help

Hello All,
I have been reading much of the fantastic information that has been provided by this forum. I had no idea that there would be so many upgrade options...but need to get this thing working first.

I received a 1993 EZGO Marathon with the purchase of a lakehouse. Here is what I have found thus far:

1 Interstate battery from 5/08
5 Trojan 105 from 2003
Readings are 6.2, 6.0, 6.0, 6.0, 6.0, 5.9 after a full charge on the EZGO charger

Total voltage tested at 36.1v
Should this enough to get the cart to move? Time for new batteries?

Reverse buzzer works
Headlights work

Testing voltage of B+ to M- resulted from 0 to .2v at full throttle (this looks like a problem)
Potentiometer ranged from 0 to 6k at full throtle
I tried testing the solenoid without success (not sure what I was doing)

I have printed about 100 pages from this site to try to follow as I test the cart, but some are over my head.

Any thoughts on next steps?
Thansk!

The solenoid must click and work for the cart to run. 36v should make it go but it is not a good charge.

How the Solenoid works:
The solenoid is a HD on/off switch or Contactor
the connection is made /broken between the 2 large terminals. The 2 small terminals are the activation circuit. Typically one terminal will have a constant negative connection to the pack. When Positive power is applied to the second small terminal the contact is drawn up against the spring to make contact. When power from either side of the activation circuit is removed then contact is released and the spring pushes it away interrupting the circuit ...It doesn't matter which small terminal is neg or pos on the activation circuit so long as you have both.... The solenoid is just a switch making and breaking the contact between the 2 large posts when the 2 small posts have pack voltage.
I hope this helps.

This is helpful...thank you.

I get no continuity between the 2 large posts or 2 small posts (key on, petal not depressed). When I jump the 2 large posts and press the gas--it came alive! I have seen the wheels turn for the first time...excellent! Does this mean the solenoid is bad?

Sounds like the solenoid is bad. You can test the ignition side and see if you get voltage on the two small pins. One is neg and the other is pos. Set your meter to dc volts just dont want to blow it. Do the same test and see if you get voltage. If you see it move then I would get a solenoid.

I would start putting cash away for batteries because those are toast. If cash is tight try and see if a cart shop near by will sell a set of match take outs. Maybe a set of 2010's

Thanks for the help. I tested teh two small posts on the solenoid and get 36.1v when the gas is pressed (no click). With your help, it looks like my probelm is the solenoid. I'll take the old one out and inspect...and order a heavy duty version.

Next up is the batteries. I noticed Costo has some for $80 (recognize that Trojan is probably best).

Update: I found a local parts supplier that had this solenoid in stock. Went and picked it up, installed it, hit the gas...heard a solenoid click for the first time, and drove the EZGO!

Batteries seem like they will only last ~10mins, but I am roling.

Thanks for the help.
