Default Brush guard and Winch that bends it

Hello. Just need some ideas....or maybe you'll just tell me I have to scrap what I have and have a new one build......but here is my problem:

I have a completely built from the frame up....2000.5 EZ-GO TXT with a bunch of options. It's a 48-V system, Alltrax controller, Limited Slip, lifted, rifle holder, Clays Basket, front brush guard with a winch....and this cart is built for hunting.

I have a disability and cannot walk far, so this is pretty much what I do.

So, I take this usually on my trailer...which is towed by my Silverado. However, there are a few spots that i go to where I just can't get the trailer down into. So, I had a special post made that is bolted to the front of my truck bed, which allows me to winch the cart into the back of the bed. Now, that allows me to drive my truck (yes big mudder's on it) down to a parking area, where I can then winch off the cart....and be on my merry way.

The problem is, from this winching, my existing brush guard is "bending" downward when the cart reaches the apex of the truck bed, I've had a quick fix from a local shop weld some additional metal to it....but that's not helping it.

Ideas?....or just go and have a custom brush guard\winch holder made that will bolt to the frame top?

Thanks.

Dave

I winch carts on and off my trailers. I always attach to the cart frame. It sounds to me like you already know what you are going to have to do....

Welcome Dave, I understand when the cart gets to the top of the ramp the cable is pulling down on the mount verses straight ahead.
That is hard on a mount being an electric cart.
Where are you located and can you post a picture of the winch and mounting area for us?

It may help if you could raise the hook point in the truck.

If I can find the thread, I posted pics of my brush guard and my fix to keep it from distorting under load.

Dave,

Like Dooms said, it would help to raise the pull point of your pin. I am not sure how high it is now but you could try laying a 2X4 or 4X4 across the fender wells or bed rails and run the cable over it. Put some 2X4s going from it to the front of the bed to keep it from sliding.

Or build a triangle shape with a notch at the top for the cable to rest in. The height depends on how far the cart needs to get over the threshold.. and added a crappy pic..

Good Luck

Well, Below is a pic of the post that is bolted to the front of my truck bed, and a pic of the front of my buggy with the winch on it. Now, what the truck pic doesn't show is that usually I have my truck bed cover attached.

You know, it's just one of those roll types that are attached to the side of the truck and have an aluminum channel to 'em. I'd be a little concerned that if I lay a 2X4 across it, that the force of pulling the cart would crush the aluminum rail.

Thoughts?

BTW....how do you like my "fancy" front disc brake brush guards?? I figured I had to much $$$$ invested in 'em for a big 'ol stick to just take 'em out.

Think I might make that arm longer with a pulley on the end.....brace it back if you had to.

Flintlock.....Yeah, I did fail to mention that I actually use a pully on the truck post to "half" the load. So, the cable goes from the winch, to the pully on the truck post, then back to the cart and gets hooked under the front axle.

I'm no mechanical engineer, but they tell me this creates half the load stress on both the cart, and the truck post when it's done this way. I just say OK....and follow directions.

You need to raise your post about a foot or make a center brace that goes from bed side to bed side that the cable can ride on to raise the cable higher than the post to give it a better angle. Look at KGSC master paint skills and I believe me and him are on the same page. That is really your only 2 options. What kind of ramps are you using? Bi fold, tri fold, curved, straight?
