Well....guys....I hate to tell you this, but it's not gonna snow this year. And how do I know this you ask? Did I do a through reading of the Farmers Almanac? No.

I went out and bought a brand new two stage snow thrower. One with an electric start....and all the neat and easy goodies right at the handle bar. Yeah...just over a $Grand$ for this one.

And not only that.....I was tire of getting my Silverado wheels banged up AND getting mud-stuck with my"all season" tires .....so yup...I bought some winter steel wheels and put on some heavy lug monster cleated tires all the way around my 4X4!!!! That was about $1500$$$ right there.

So....now that I'm winter ready after spending $2,500....it's just not gonna snow.

Count on it!!!

I hate to say it with my newly minted plow waiting in the wings but I hope you are right. I looked at buying the biggest, baddest snowblower as well but throwing a grand at something I was only going to use a handful of times a year seemed silly. It cost me less than $200 to convert the GUV to plow AND I can use it year 'round.

Question for you:
Even with 6 new Trojan batteries, I can't imagine that it would have enough power to plow much snow. Even when I drive through 3-4" of snow, my voltage really drops.
Just curious if this would really work to move much snow.
Thanks!

It's probably OK for 3" or 4" and maybe even 5" of the light fluffy stuff. But I think your going to have a problem when you get that much snow....and it's the heavy wet variety.

I know that here in SW Pa. just to get around in 3 or 4" of snow when hunting, these hills, I have to put chains on all 4 wheels. The rear has posi-traction, and I also need 'em on the front to steer.

FWIW

What size tires do you have and where did you buy your chains? I was thinking I should buy some because if the snow is like what we had last year I am gonna need them.

I bot mine about 3 years ago and they are still holding up well. I bot 'em at http://www.tirechainsupply.com/22x11x10.html Tire Chain Supply. I looked at the price's of the link that I gave you and the $$$ have gone up since I bot.

I did buy the ATV chain with "V-Bar". The more expensive ones have double the cross-chains and I got those for the rear drive wheels. For the front, you don't need all of the cross-chains, so the less expensive ones will do ya fine.

The V-Bar are upside down cut "V"'s and will cut into grass, asphalt, or cement, so if you don't want to damage any of this type of material...don't buy this type of chain. I use mine in the woods....so that's not a consideration. I want to make sure I get out....and more importantly get back.

Dave

PS....my tire size is 22X11X10
