Default cart wont stop after accelerator depressed

Im a mechanic on a golf course and rarely work on carts. when i do they are 2005 and up. i have minimal experience on this 89 model resister cart. problem is when you get on it turn switch to on and depress the pedal the cart wont stop until moving the selector to neutral. then you have to unhook the positive wire from the battery or else the wiper board will weld itself. the cart has a new solenoid, but may be wired incorrectly so it has power all the time im not sure just yet. i printed some schematics off this website. i have only looked at this cart briefly and i know that the contacts on the wiper board need sanded so they will not touch and may even need replaced. so my question is will this cause it to keep going when pedal is no longer being depressed? or do i need to dig around into the resistors as well? im gonna look into this more in depth tomorrow. thanks for any info!!

Welcome to BGW.

There should be a solenoid that disconnects the battery from the motor/resistor chain when the pedal isn't pressed.

Could be high pedal microswitch is bad or out of adjustment, or the solenoid's contact welded closed.

Also, at high pedal, the wiper should be resting on a dead contact.

Of course, I could be wrong. I'm not at all familiar with resistor carts.

Got around to the cart finally. It needed a new accelerator switch and the copper lugs were melted. Replaced switch with a old one in my junk pile that I made work and new lugs. Runs like a top now!! Thx for the info
