Default Cart barely moves and grinding in rear end

I have a 2001 TXT series that I got for practically nothing.

When I step on the accelerator, the cart acts like it wants to move and there is a grinding in the rear end. You can hear the motor rpms pick up and the grind will get louder. It sounds like spline grinding against each other.

The end of the input shaft looked ok.

Could it be the axle shafts or differential?

I'd like to figure it out with out tearing apart the entire axle but it seems like I may have to.

Thanks,

Doug

Sounds like a stripped out hub. Easy check, remove the hub caps ( if installed ) have someone watch the axle nuts as you try and move the cart. If the nuts are turning with the wheel stopped, the hubs are bad. Usually the axle will be Ok. Get a new hub and clean and lube the axle, and tighten the nut to 140 ft lbs torque. If the slots for the cotter pin don't line up, tighten the nut until they do.
Now remove your other side and do the same thing so it doesn't strip out! :)

You have a spun hub. Replace it with a OEM EZ-GO hub from one of the sponsors here and you will be good to go.

If the hub is not spun the differential could be cracked... the spun hub is cheaper

I'll give those a check in a couple of hours.

Thanks,

Yep. That was it.

I'm worried that the axle shaft may be a bit worn down but I'm not sure. I know the pics aren't the clearest but does it look normal?

Thanks again,

Doug

They will be somewhat worn, but with a new or good used hub you should be fine! I've seen worse than yours that worked fine with new hubs.
The main thing with these is to have the nut properly torqued. Don't just rely on an impact gun. Use a torque wrench and then a breaker bar, if you have to go tighter to line up the slots.

Take a screw driver or something and scrape all the crap out of the splines on the axle, and torque the nut on the axle to 150# and don't back off the nut to put the pin in the axle, if the pin won't go in tighten it a little more
