Default What Speedometer with Trip Meter to Use

I would like some ideas aand suggestions on what kind of speedometer to install or are the handheld bike type gps speedometers with trip meters good. I have looked at Kosco, and round in the dash types and can these be shut off, or will they continue to use juice when my carts parked. Any suggestions are appreciated

I bought an Alltrax Ex-ray from ScottyB. I haven't installed it yet, but it does voltage, speed, odometer, clock, ambient temperature, temperature sensor you can mount on the motor or controller, etc., all with user settable warnings, and alarms.

http://www.alltraxinc.com/Products_Speedometers.html

You can download the manual, but the LCD and back-light turn off after so many minutes of inactivity. Even when on, they draw an inconsequential amount of power.

I plan on mounting mine in the overhead console and using the switch which can be seen next to my stereo, to control the back-light.

You get to tell the unit the tire size, so you can make it super accurate. All it does is count revolutions and then does the math.

I have the Trail Tech also and I love it. Has tons of functions including motor temp which has been super nice to have during all of the testing I've done with motors. I mounted mine on my dash right above my switches. As Yurtle said, no worries about it draining the battery. It comes on automatically when it senses movement in the cart and then shuts itself off a few minutes after the cart stops moving. Really neat little speedo!

I didnt want to fork out the cash for one like the other guys mentioned, as I have a grocery list of things I want to add before that. So, I went ahead and downloaded a free app for my samsung galaxy S2 phone that works off of my gps signal. I allways have my phone with me, so I just stick my phone in the cup holder and it works fine for what I need. Did I mention it was free?

Don't think of it as a money pit. Think of it as an investment...an investment in your sanity and education. And if you get tired of it or just need to sell, you can get about half your money back...which is better than a lot of 401Ks have performed!

Not sure, but I think he was asking for a link to download the speedo app I mentioned. I dont have a link to share, but form any android based phone, anyone can go to android marketplace to download apps for their smart phones. I downloaded "ulyssespeedometer" which is an app that uses the gps signal in your phone to give you a digital speed reading. It has other ceatures as well, but the bottom line is that it was a free download and served the same purpose as thos hard wired units mentioned earlier in tbis thread. I think those guys were paying anywhere from 150-200 for those units, then theh had install time to add. My download took about 30 sec and achieved same goal, for free.
