Maybe the problem then is in the throttle assemby?

What happens if you tighten the nut on the backside of the switch assembly? The one right in the middle. Reverse is fine....only difference between forward and reverse is when the F/R switch is switched and reverses the polarity...and the reverse micro. Doesn't make sense. Worn brushes maybe.....its possible.

Wouldn't matter, sends the same signal no matter which way the switch is. Throttle is never taken out of the ciruit during a switch.

Are you talking about the nut that holds the selector spindle? I'll try it. I cleaned all the connections on the F/R switch but haven't removed/cleaned the ones on the motor ends. That's my next move. Are you talking about worn brushes in the motor? Once it goes forward it works fine even stop and go. The only thing that affects it is if I shift the F/R switch, then it gets stubborn again.

Item number 31 in this picture is the nut I'm referring to. (this pic is different from your but the nut is the same) And yes, I was talking about the motor brushes. Cleaning those motor connection won't do any good. If it were one of those connections reverse would act up too.

Thanks...I realized the connections weren't the problem after I pulled the first one and realized it was all one circuit, but figured it wouldn't hurt to finish up. The picture is pretty close to me except upside down, no cover and a separate reverse warning switch. I tightened the nut (31) but no change. Are the brushes like in a car generator? This condition has been going on too long (my thinking for 10 years) for the brushes to be the issue but maybe the spring clips? Of course that question is based on the motor being like a car generator.

I appreciate your time and thoughts.

Yes, real similar. Thats the last thing I could possibly think of. Motor brushes are not wanting to make contact with the armature in forward. The brushes could be rocking in there holder....anything is possible I suppose.
