48 volts to a 36 volt motor
Im new to the site and so far is great and a lot of good info. I got my cart a bit ago for free but it did get wet in a storm so I have been replacing alot of the electrical stuff. I was sold a Red Hawk 36 volt motor. Will it run on 48 volts? I do know I will have to replace the controller and solenoid and already bought the HD reverse switch from ScottyB. What do you think and what is the life of my motor if I do?

Re: 48 volts to a 36 volt motor
The admiral Mot-B1 is a series motor designed for 36 volts. That said it should work fine in a 48 volt cart. It has a top speed of 18mph ( stock is 14mph) and is rated at 8 HP. If your still concerned send it in to PlumQuick and have them beef it up for you. Or you could sell it and get a bigger motor designed for 48 volts. Most of the motors are designed for the EZGo are going to be rated for 36 volts since that is what the carts came with standard but there are manufacturers who build motors for 48 and 72 volt use.

a 36v motor will be fine on 48v, as long as you don't use too large of a controller. i think up to 500 amps should be fine. mine runs well with a 480 amp controller.
