Default Looking For TXT Cup/Console Mod Suggestions

I just acquired a '07 TXT PDS and I find the four OEM drink holder lacking. I want room for 12 oz cans with foam coozie or a 34oz mug with a 4" base. I am not finding much available in my web searches. Plug and play options would be good but I can fab something up myself if needed.

So, any links on manufactured upgrades would be appreciated. All I am finding are dash upgrades which don't really do anything with the drink holders.

Also, how does one remove the OEM drink holder?

Thanks,

Rick

The beer work-around I use is thinner coozies. They fit perfectly, and keep the beer from sloshing around as much as a can alone.

Just drink em faster and you won't need a coozie. Problem solved. My bill is in the mail. Your welcome. but seriously, check out the dash cover for a txt that goes to the floor. The cup areas might be a different size.

There are three tabs at the front that must be pried out and up at the same time. Even when the tabs are clear, the drains still hang up at the bottom. When the rear is loose, lift it up in an arc toward the dash to free the tabs at the front. I strongly recommend shaving the dash side tabs clean off, and smoothing the rear ones down a bit. If you think you'll ever need to pull it out again, this will make your life MUCH easier. The holder will still fit very securely, even without the front tabs.

My reasoning for cutting the tabs was that I use the hollow behind the cupholders for accessory wiring, fuse block, winch contactor etc... I need to access that space on a fairly regular basis. My cupholder now lifts straight up and out with a firm tug.

I'll see if I can re-link my pic with the cupholder removed, so you can see where the tabs are.

The VIP dash has a mega size cup holder. This is made to fit a propane bottle for a heater, but works great as a mega cup holder.

I'd grab one if those in a heartbeat if they had glove box doors instead of speaker holes. Otherwise, that setup is AWESOME!

My problem isn't how fast I drink 'em, it that I drive like a maniac and the cans bounce around loosely in the cup holders, sloshing the open ones and shaking up the unopened ones. The thinner coozies make for a snug fit, eliminating some of the sloshing. Even though I often take a cooler on my rides, I place four beers in the four cup holders, so I won't have to stop every two or three minutes to dig one out of the cooler. In addition to the sloshing of the open can, the others have been sufficiently shaken up so that they spew when opened. Four thin coozies fix that problem as well.

Everything that I have found is just a new skin that looks like it was made in the OEM mold. I can't believe that someone hasn't made something different.

Why not fabricate your own? Over the years, I've fabricated a lot of stuff with plastics, metals, fiberglass, epoxy, solder, Bondo, etc. Even if you aren't perfect, you can sand it, reapply resin if necessary, and paint.

If all you need to do is modify the cupholder, start by pulling it off and see if there a way to modify it. Go to Wal-Mart, Home Depot, automotive junk yards, etc, and see if you can find something that has the size and shape you're looking for, then see if you can mate the two up. If you carefully enlarge the cupholder holes, you could find a suitable cupholder and just fiberglass it from the underside on the outside of the cupholder, much like solid surface sinks are mounted underneath Corian countertops.
