Re: EZGO electric cart
Welcome to BGW!
The most common cause of your problem is a stripped brake drum/hub. Remove the hub caps and any dust shield on the rear wheels and observe the castle nuts as you try and drive the cart. If one of them is spinning while the cart is stationary, that brake drum/hub is stripped. Let us know what you find out. |

Re: EZGO electric cart
No movement on either axles. However the cart does try to move a tad when the motor starts to spin. The motor does not spin freely, it sounds like it has some load on it as if it has a slipping clutch.

Re: EZGO electric cart
OK, now we need to know the specifics on your cart.
Year Stock or modified Battery ages and condition Any corrosion present? Do you have a Run/Tow toggle switch on the controller cover? Do you have a digital volt meter and know how to use it? |

Re: EZGO electric cart
The manufacturers code number is CO896, I assume that means it was built in 1996.
I don't think it was modified. The batteries are a combination of old and new No corrosion on terminals, and jumper cables are in good condition. The service switch in on "run" Yes I have a digital multimeter and know how to use it. |

Re: EZGO electric cart
Connect the meter to the pack and try to go.... a drop of about 2v in this situation means a battery failure. move the meter from battery to battery and re-test until you have checked them all. Replace the ones that drop 1v since there is real no load. My wife's little DCS cart runs junker batteries in it... it acts like this when ever one battery gives up the ghost.
Unless, somebody else has another idea??? |

Re: EZGO electric cart
Thank you for your suggestion and I'll give it a try tommorrow when the old girl that owns the cart get's home to open her garage . Just wondering if there is anything between the motor and drive axles that could come loose and slip?

Re: EZGO electric cart
There is a motor coupler, but they are usually a last resort. Your cart appears to be a DCS cart and they will act dumb when presented with a poor battery pack. That's why we need real voltage numbers. Can't diagnose a cart over the internet without a "known-good" pack.

Re: EZGO electric cart
What really puzzels me is the motor turns but the axles don't, I could understand this happening if the cart had a torque converter or a slipping clutch. Are the drive wheels and the motor a direct drive or do the drive wheels disconnect from the motor when power is removed? I sure wish I could find a print of the drive train for this cart.
