'93 Marathon stalled
My trusty old golf car decided to quite going today. Pulled into my parking space yesterday and it would not go this morning. Pretty new batteries that are showing 38 volts - turn on the key, press the accellerator and nothing. No click no sound at all and of course no movement.
The wile from the battery to the key switch looked bad and I replaced it but still nothing. I welcome any suggestions and all troubleshooting proceedures and promise to follow them to the letter. missing my Car Ron Aguanga, California |

Re: '93 Marathon stalled
Welcome to BGW.
You didn't mention if your Marathon has a speed controller or has a resistor type drive, but they've both got solenoids and yours isn't clicking. Two microswitches and the key switch have to be closed for the solenoid to activate. I suspect one of the microswitchs since they rely on a little bitty internal spring to close the NC contacts and it only take a little crud to gum them up enough that they don't work. One is located in/on the throttle box and the other is on the F/R switch. |

Re: '93 Marathon stalled w/ speed controller
Did as you said and find the switch leading into the solenoid could be bad. Used a jumper and the solenoid engages - Genius! Take a bow.
In normal operation does the solenoid stay engaged with the key on? Thanks for the help Ron |

Quote:
It is a sequence of events. Key Switch ON F/R switch in F or R Throttle depressed. If the solenoid is staying closed, the microswitch on the throttle is probably the one you've got jumpered, it's the last one in the chain of events. Squirt it with some WD-40 and click it a few times and it might start working, but even if it does, it needs to be replaced because it is going to stick open again and will undoubtedly happen at the most inopportune time. |
