Default Potentiometer Wiring

Hey all, seems strange but as much as this is posted about I can't seem to find a wiring diagram for the potentiometer.

Picked up a 1990 EZ-GO Textron 3-wheel cart, has the solid state speed controller.

Over its 22 odd years of life someone's done a few odd things to it, including shorting the solenoid with a resistor because the microswitch went out.
Now the pot's dead, so I'm redoing this whole bit.

This is the wiring on the potentiometer as I found it.

Trying to find how its supposed to look. I did find - http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/attac...r-img_0141.jpg posted in another thread (closed the tab, not sure which one), its exactly like what I've got. I'm assuming this was not factory, but I'm guessing it does work.

Should I put it back the way it was with the new pot (5k linear, yes?), or is there a better solution?
Thanks!

What's the output of the unit as is?

The solenoid is supposed to have a 250Ω resistor across the two large lugs. This keeps the filter capacitors in the controller charged so there is minimized arcing of the solenoid contacts when it engages.
The circuitry attached to the pot I can't help you with. Mine doesn't have any of that. My guess is trying to make a different value pot work.
The resistor is a 4.6kΩ, if I'm reading the colors right. I can't make out the other components.

Oh, cool. Thanks simple man.
The resistor isn't mentioned anywhere in any of the wiring diagrams I've seen. There was also a diode bridging the two small posts, I suppose I should put that back on as well.

I bought the cart non-running, the resistor across the solenoid just seemed odd to me as its basically bypassed the switch... but then again, the resistor wire isn't nearly thick enough to carry the amperage.

Sorry, the picture isn't great.
The resistor is just inline with the black lead that comes from the direction control switch. One of the resistor leads bridges one of the side connections and the center connection on the pot. The 'output' black wire is attached to the center connector. The two white wires are attached to the other side pot connection.

Either way, I guess I'm ordering a whole new box. Just a new 'EZGO' pot is $44 odd (wat), the 5k I picked up from radioshack is kinda wimpy looking and the turning angle is too wide to get a full 5k out of it with the arm on.
There's the full assembly on ebay for $89 shipped, I guess I'm going that route

scottyb - the pot's resistance is inconsistent and jumps around, anywhere from 0 ohms to 7k. It likes to stick at 0 and 7k.
