EZ go headlights
One of our members was charging her new batteries and accidentally turned on the headlights. They immediately stopped working. In checking for a fuse, there is no fuse box under the drivers seat where I think it ought to be.
Guessing the cart is a 2001 electric EZ go. Suggestions please. |

Re: EZ go headlights
It sounds odd that the first time the lights are turned on after a battery change that the lights go out. That would make me think that maybe the light connections were not reinstalled as they were prior to the battery change. Try to find the light wiring where it comes off of the batteries and see what they are connected to.

Re: EZ go headlights
Thanks Rickochet. l'll try to track down an inline fuse. Any guess on the probability that the lights bulbs were blown instead of the fuse?

Re: EZ go headlights
I would determine which wires from the battery pack are connected to lights to see if they were getting 12v or were reconnected to higher voltage after the battery change.

Re: EZ go headlights
when turning on the head lights while being charged they get to much voltage and blow out the bulbs

Re: EZ go headlights
if the lights were activated during a charge, it is possible the bulbs are blown.
if the light blew after a battery change, they prob hooked the light wires up wrong and the system has more than 12V on it. i read you post as it was charging and the customer turned on the lights while on charge |

Re: EZ go headlights
COURTESYCART, You read correctly. The lights went out when they were turned on as the batteries were being charged. Seems to me it should have blown a fuse. By the way: The tail lights still work.

Re: EZ go headlights
if the tail lights still work ,you did not blow a fuse as there is only 1 fuse in the harness ,the head light bulbs are blown

Re: EZ go headlights
Halogen bulbs operate pretty close the the filament's melting point, that is why they give off such a bright white light.
When the cart is on charge, they get hit with about 15V rather than the normal 12.7 and burn out. On the the other hand, the filaments of regular incandescent bulbs, like those used in taillights and side markers, operate at a lower temperature and can tolerate the over-voltage far longer. Powering lights with a 36V to 12V DC to DC converter rather than tapping the battery pack at 12v should avoid this issue. |
