Default wheel size

As you all may know by now, i am currently working on a 93 ezgo marathon 36 volt cart. i have lifted the cart about 6-7 inches, i have standard old white 8" wheels on it now, i have a friend who gave me a set of 10" standard wheels and good tires, i had a co-worker today, give me a set of 13" 4 lug mag wheels from a nissan car, they fit perfectly, however i am concerned about putting the 13" wheels on my cart because i dont know how much it will take away from my cart, as far as milage goes on the cart. can anyone give me some feedback as to what i should do??? thanks for the help

Default Re: wheel size

Tire height is the factor that changes performance. Wheel (rim) size only alters appearance, and there might be some clearance issues.

The stock tire is about 18" tall. If you go to a tire that is 24" tall, you increase the rolling circumference to the tread by 33%, which gives you 33% more speed, but takes away 33% of the torque.

It is akin to having a 10-speed bike stuck in top gear. It take more energy to get it going and to climb hills, but it goes fast.

The stock controller, F/R switch (in series carts) and cables have to be upgraded to supply the additional current needed to get reasonable acceleration and to keep cart from slowing down so much going up inclines.

How much taller tires and higher ampacity components in the motor drive circuit reduces run-time, depends on how hard you accelerate, how often you Stop & Go and the terrain you drive on, but it will reduce it.
