on the post 2001.5 carts with the steering mounted down on the front axle, the housing wears out. Ezgo needed a replaceable bearing in the housing end but opted for a 5 yr plan instead. so yes, lots of these carts need to have the housing replaced. but it doesn't cost any more than a rebuild of the earlier type?

I did end up finding some info on it and luckily it doesn't appear to be as costly as he was saying.

Thanks for the info. The guy told me about the steering problem when I was looking for a cart and said I should stay with the PDS carts which is what I bought. Now that i've done alot more reading i'm beginning to think I might should have went with the pre 01.5 due to the series motor. I want to fix up a cart to be able to pull trailers , ride off road through woods, streams and up hills but I also want to be able to ride around town and in campgrounds. Since i've already bought the sepex cart i'm thinking about just sticking with it and making it what I want. I'm just having a heck of a time trying to decide what avenue I want to go.

This was the problem, right here:

We ordered up a new steering box, rack, and a pinion gear, built it back up, and bolted it all back together. Steers nice and tight now.
Found it!

I didn't recognize you were talking about the same steering as mine 'til I saw the photo. Here's a brief description on mine:
