Default Trailering An Electric Cart Questions

I will be hauling my '07 TXT PDS to a lake about 85 miles soon on 2 lane 55mpg roads with a return trip in the fall. I am currently trailer shopping. I have another thread in the gen BS forum about trailer selection so I don't want to rehash that. The trailer will be 4 x 8 to 5 x 10.

I have some basic questions to hopefully keep things from blowing off, particularly the roof, folding windshield and drivers seat bottom.

1. If I end up with a 4 x 8 I will probably have to back it on to get the rear seat foot rest over the front rail. Or if I get a 5 x 10 should it be backed on because of the battery weight to keep the trailer tongue weight from getting too light.

2. Should the roof (stock short roof) be tied down, removed or what?

3. Should the drivers seat bottom be lashed down or removed and put in the vehicle?

4. Should the windshield be tied down or removed?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Rick

Rick, first I want to know where these 55 mpg roads are ?? I would love that fuel economy

Just Kidding

A lot of this depends on what you are pulling it with but

1. If you can get it on there nose forward I would think that would be best. Weight distribution should be ok.

2. Again, depends on tow vehicle but if the roof is in good shape under 70 should be fine.

3. If it is in rear first most definitely. Nose first, its a toss up. I wouldn't

4. Also, if on there rear first, I would take it off. Nose first at least flip it down. If much more than 55, take it off. Ten minutes to save $100...

I pull mine with an F250 4X4 so it doesn't get quite as much wind so my situation is different. Once you get your trailer, figure out the best way to get it on there and then figure out what will blow off

I drove mine on forward, which put the rear wheels just slightly fore of the trailer axle. I lashed the seat bottom down with a ratchet strap. I folded the windshield down and wrapped another ratchet strap around it. Roof rode fine as it was. 65 mile trip with extended 65 mph limit. Rode just fine & dandy. I did notice it was slightly port of center when I got home. Stop now and again to check that ...

Hey I live in Kentucky. You can't go much faster than 55mph on dirt roads.

Tow vehicle is a stock '09 Tacoma Access 2wd so it sits much lower than a F250. I have a bud who has a 2wd F150 and my Taco looks like a toy when parked next to it.

I have been towing boats for 40 years and I have learned that anything that can blow off will. I think that is Murphy's law #134.

Rick
I haul my cart from FL to SC on hwy 95 on a 5x10 trailer I take the windshield off and I strap the seat down. The roof has not been a problem @ all.

I tow mine up to camp about 60 miles. I use a Chevy Avalanche to pull a 5 X 10 trailer. I put the cart on in the forward facing direction and tie it down so it won't roll. I always fold the windshield down so it is not a big sail, the only thing I have noticed is you want to watch the windshield at the bottom. Mine flexed the first time and put two small nicks in the paint at the bottom. I took two small felt stick ons like you put on the bottom of chairs painted them the same color as the body and it no longer rubs paint and you don't even notice them. Simpler than taking windshield off every time. Other than that no problems towing 60 miles an hour.

When the guy dropped off my EZGO it lost the driver seat and the next day I lost the windshield going to the sand dunes. Never worried about the top blowing off before. On my yamaha I haven't lost anything off it. One tip I have to offer is that I run my front ratchet strap thru the floor area OVER the brake pedal and UNDER the gas.

Rick, you missed the mpg vs mph entry

And yes the 250 stands at 82 inches tall so it does create quite a wind block. Did have the issue one time of where the windshield scuffed the cowl. I now stuff a dog bone sponge in between the windshield and the cowl if I am going over like 50. Strap the 4 corners to pull in every direction and let it roll.

Windshield comes off in 30 seconds. It's a good idea to throw a bungee over the seats, I lost a rear flip seat once because it wasn't dogged down. Roof is never a problem for me. Drive 15 minutes then pull over and check tightness on all straps.

If you get a 4x8 trailer check with seller to see if you call haul cart first before buying. My experience with 4x8 tilt trailer hauling a cart forward the trailer will not tilt back down with out additional weight on front and cart having rear seat it be additional weight on rear. Top speed was about 45 mph any more speed and trailer would sway.

Hauling backwards remove windshield and tie or strap seat and strap cart.
