Default Older marathon

Good morning,
*I have an older ez go marathon I am working on and I think I have a motor problem. when I got the cart it would not go but the motor would turn, I found one of the hubs was bad so I replaced the hubs and brake. With the rear still jacked up it will run in forward and reverse fine, I said great problem solved. Take the jack and stands out set it on the ground get in and it will not go, if you have someone give you a push or if you get a rolling start down hill it will run great forward or reverse, as soon as you stop and do not have that push or roll it will not go. What would be your suggestion?*Batteries are one year old trojans at full charge

Is it a Resistor or Controller type drive?

In either case, it sounds like you have a bad high current cable or connection, something causing mechanical drag, or a bad battery. Maybe a sick motor.

Sitting on the cart (or kneeling in front of seat), you ought to be able to move it by placing one hand on the ground and pushing.

If it moves easily, connect your DVM to your battery pack. What does the pack voltage drop to when you try to start from a stand-still?

When the motor is stalled, it is going to draw max current and the weakness in the cables, connections and batteries will make themselves be known.

Let's find out if it's mechanical or electrical and go from there.

Thank you for the response. It is a controller style cart, it has 36.8 volts just sitting still, when the pedal is pressed it drops to 36.2. Still does not until u push it for a few feet then it does fine, the other day when this all happened once we pushed it to get going we rode it for 5 or 6 miles with no problems at all then when we stopped it would do anything until we gave it a push.

Hopefully your batteries are on charge.
36.8V is only 60% SoC. That combined with some stiff bearings might cause it to do what it is doing, but sort of sounds like your motor needs brushes also.

Ok, still need some help. I took the advice given I took the motor off and took it to a shop and they said the motor checks out just fine no need to replace anything. So I'm back to square one same problem still exist. Any other help or suggestions.

Thanks

I think you have a battery problem or cables, check the water levels, make sure the plates are covered, use distilled water, charge the pack untill the charger shuts off by it's self, after the battery pack has been off the charger for 12 hours, we need a pack reading at rest, and then a pack reading trying to drive it,/load test, and a load test on each battery, post the numbers
