HELP Basic wiring info
What is the method of the 1985 EZGO golf cart wiring scheme. Does it divert full power to the motor (completely bypassing resistor grid ) when pedal is pressed all the way down? Or does it still partially bypass some power to the resistor grid?
Another question is this: What would happen if you connected batteries straight to the motor without using any resistor or other mechanism except a simple switch? THANKS !! asap answers are great ! |

Re: HELP Basic wiring info
The resistor are completely out of the circuit at full throttle. Full pack voltage is being used all of the time.
answer to number 2 is....it would go wide open with no throttle control. |

Re: HELP Basic wiring info
Hey thanks.. the reason i was asking is that there is a short thick wire in the wiring diagram from the solenoid primary to the resistor pack , looks like its always connected to resistor pack even when throttle wire is on the direct to motor 'button contact' . Thus I was wondering if the motor resistance were somehow matched with the resistor pack to keep motor from running away and burning up.
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...html#post62377 (I couldn't get the insert link button to work?) I disconnected the short wire and the golf cart ran normally with no burps. SO I am thinking the motor resistance must be so far below that of the resistor pack that the motor really does take ~100% of current and power. NOW the other question in more detail : 1. I am presuming the motor is 'series connected' (has s1 s2, a1, a2 connections all same size). In that case if the batteries were connected directly to batteries would the motor explode, burn up, or just run at top speed? ( I am leaning towards top sudden speed but not burning up or running away? what do you say? ) THANKS! |

Re: HELP Basic wiring info
Additional: the reason I am leaning towards the sudden top speed but not running away is that the wiring diagram basically is doing that anyway if a person stomps the pedal all the way at once. What do you say?
2. Could the motor be used in a winch with just an on / off switch (rude but would it work without burning up or running away) 3. If you connect the motor without any load directly to the batteries then what would happen? THANKS !! |

Re: HELP Basic wiring info
No, the motor is not matched to the resistors.
The motor will run wide open if connected straight to full pack voltage. It "might explode" if the rpm are not kept in check. It won't burn from a direct connection to the batteries up because its not using anymore power than if you were wide open throttle. 2.Winch, NO, not without machine work and mods. 3. It will explode. Later! |

Re: HELP Basic wiring info
Ok.. #2 the winch: What mods.. just say a gearbox was used prehaps the transaxle of the golf cart itself. The meat of the matter is will it damage the motor to run without load? You said rpm must be kept in check.
Background: We also have a second motor which is the 72volt 82amp small electric car motor (series wound with 2 field connection and 2 armature connections all same size). Some have said it would draw all 800 amps from batteries all at once and blow up or burn up. Others say that would happen without load. Others don't know. Any more info? THANKS ! |

Re: HELP Basic wiring info
If your gonna use the tranaxle from the cart it will probly be fine. When I say explode....a series motor has the potential to spin extremely high rpms if there is no load. A transaxle should give it enough load to stay in check

Re: HELP Basic wiring info
So basically the motor will be fine if connected straight to batteries as long as there is some load even if its this other motor listed below? Thanks (last question for today). (Just didn't want to risk expensive motors finding out basic motor theory.. lol )
