Default Steering is loose

97 TXT.

Not sure of the exact phrasing for this, but there is some slack in the steering. It's not very noticeable at slow speeds, but at high speeds (20+) it's nerve-racking.

Who knows the cause and solution to this?

The easiest check,is have someone shake the steering-wheel back and forth(like a little kid does when they pretend to drive).and watch the steering linkage under the cart for anything loose or worn, such as tie-rod ends.If they are tight the rack or the steering-shaft is loose.I'm not sure if the rack is adjustable, but someone here should know.Hope this helps.

On you year of cart, the steering can wear out and even become stripped, one of the gears on the inside could be worn. Like pachanga mentioned check all of your steering to make sure everything is tight. There are 3 main bolts that hold the main steering to the cart you will want to make sure they are tight as well.

Here is a pic of a steering torn apart.

Here it is when it is mounted to your cart, gives you an idea.

There is a bushing that isn't removed in your photo. Besides the rack and pinion, that's where a lot of play was on mine. There are also a few internal bushings that are hard to replace, and they didn't sell them when I did mine.
