48 Volt to 12 Volt Converter Install
After installing eight T-105s under my seat
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...-question.html I wasn't sure if I had enough room to install my converter under the seat. Here's how I did it. |

Re: 48 Volt to 12 Volt Converter Install
Since this was mounted right under my charger outlet, I chose to use the two perfectly good AWG 10 wires that already went to my pack.
After I was happy that it would fit, I gave the frame several generous coatings of truck bed liner and bolted on the converter and terminal strip and fuse block. Now I gotta re-terminate this rats nest. Though no one will ever see this, I'm kinda anal about neat wiring. Note each wire is labeled and documented. |

Re: 48 Volt to 12 Volt Converter Install
OK, after a few beers, maybe I ain't so anal about neat wiring. The black box that will be in front of the battery is my wig-wag power supply. The wire on top of it will go to my neon power supply.
I found a 3/16" x 12" x 36" piece of HDPE in my hoard pile. I'm gonna make a shield to protect it from battery acid, and water then I wash my batteries. The converter is mounted an inch higher that the battery tray. |

Re: 48 Volt to 12 Volt Converter Install
I have a closure piece that is fastened to the front frame using nylon bolts. I guess I was in such a hurry to get on the road last night, I forgot to photo that.
Anyway, this was a pain, as I was too lazy to remove the seven batteries that would have made access much easier. Instead I squeezed into the tiny area where the three front batteries were. All in all, I think it will serve me well. |

Re: 48 Volt to 12 Volt Converter Install
Two years ago, I wired up all of my accessories using three circuits of two batteries each. After I was done, the buggy was dead. It was my reed switch, so I bypassed it. Like a dummy, I paid $45 or so and replaced it. Now it's failed again. I've dealt with glass reed switches, and it's hard for me to imagine how the stupid thing can fail. I'm gonna tear one apart, since I have two dead ones now, and see what went wrong. It's just a normally closed switch, that only opens in the presence of a magnet. Mine opens when ever I do major upgrades. Magnetic personality?

Great job!
Since you did your install with the batteries in place, you know you can access it later on! |

Re: 48 Volt to 12 Volt Converter Install
I bought the fuse block from West Marine. I probably spent more than I needed to, but I figured it was probably more weather resistant than the ones I already had. I already had the terminal strip. Both are stainless. I also completely covered the terminals with vaseline. I may live to regret that.
